Manos de Cristo Receives $20,000 Grant from the Maximus Foundation to Support Under Resourced Communities

[Austin, TX] – [July 2022] – Manos de Cristo has been awarded a $20,000 grant to support their low-cost Dental Center. The Maximus Foundation selected Manos de Cristo because of their dedication to promoting self-sufficiency and personal growth through health care services or family and community development.

The Manos de Cristo Dental Center predominantly serves uninsured or financially disadvantaged patients. The Dental Center has been an important part of the Austin safety net since 1989. As a trusted member of the community, we provided dental care to 5,285 unduplicated patients in 2021. Our dental providers educate patients on the importance of oral health to their overall health and wellbeing. The Center also has referral relationships with local hospitals to keep patients from visiting crowded emergency rooms that are often unable to provide appropriate care and to help them avoid expensive bills.

The grant funded by the Maximus Foundation will enable Manos de Cristo to keep dental fees low, become a home for routine dental healthcare, and to provide emergency, restorative and preventative care to our underserved neighbors in Central Texas.

"Much of our world has been forever altered, and many already disadvantaged people are now even further challenged in meeting the demands of everyday living. Despite facing many of their own unanticipated challenges, Manos de Cristo has continued to meet the everchanging needs of their constituents. Not only are they providing essential services, but through their adaptive programming and leadership, Manos de Cristo is helping people face the uncertainties of today's world," said John Boyer, Maximus Foundation Chairman. "The Foundation Board of Directors and I send our congratulations and sincere appreciation to Manos de Cristo with best wishes for continuing success."
